While our sweet guys did the heavy lifting, me and Hannah tackled the carpet in the Living Room. With exactos in hand, it only took us about 30 minutes. Removing the carpet just reassured me of my loyalty to hardwood floors. The stuff , dust, dirt that you find underneath carpet is something that makes me start to sweat creepy crawlers. But underneath the yuck, the plywood subfloor looked to be in great condition. So of course, I started daydreaming about the new dark hardwood floors that we would eventually be installing on top. Oh how beauteous it will be!
But then... within 4.5 seconds into my daydream, I absolutely knew and felt in my HEART AND SOUL that there was a treasure lying just underneath my feet. With a small screwdriver, I started going to work trying to pull up the plywood. After a few minutes, Dave gave me one of his looks and handed me a crowbar. OK. I get it.
And then...after several minutes of trying to pull up that plywood....
VOILA!!!! A hallelujah moment.
Beautiful Dark Hardwood Floors in the same shade that we had wanted to install. And they are not just in the living room, they are in the spare room too! Insert happy dance.
With the wall partially down, the light and open air vibe totally transformed the two rooms. Why not keep it open and just build/install sliding barn doors on a track system on the living room wall and just open and close the doors as needed. If guests come over, they can have their privacy by just closing the barn doors. Brilliant! Here's a peek at what we're thinking. We can do this!
On to the kitchen... In order to create more light in the kitchen, we want to install a pass through window from the kitchen onto the enclosed front porch which will also serve as a dining area. We considered taking down the entire wall that divides the two rooms but it's load bearing and we're not ready for that. We knew that a window would serve the purpose. What we didn't know was that behind the plywood walls, there was ALREADY A WINDOW! How is that for serendipity!
I woke up at 5:15 this morning.... Smiling.
And feeling blessed.
